A parking meter, commonly referred to as a parking post, is a self-service tool that calculates hourly parking rates. Users can park their vehicles for a set duration after making a payment.
With the advent of the digital age, parking meters are becoming increasingly advanced. In addition to supporting enhanced functionalities such as e-ticket integration, license plate recognition, and image recognition, a significant advancement is the incorporation of solar battery charging and large touch display screens.

Based on extensive experience, TES has the following insights on touch solutions for smart parking meters:
1.Weather-resistant Designs
Outdoor touch screens should meet IP65 or higher standards, designed to prevent dust ingress and withstand high-pressure water jets. Typically, their housings are fully enclosed, with rubber seals and waterproof adhesive to block moisture. Ventilation systems often include filters to allow airflow while preventing dust accumulation.
a) Waterproof and Dustproof
Outdoor touch screens have to be IP65 or higher waterproof and dustproof, which means they keep dust out and can withstand powerful jets of water. In terms of mechanism, outdoor touch screen housings are usually designed as a fully enclosed structure, using rubber seals and waterproof adhesive to prevent moisture from entering the interior. Additionally, outdoor touchscreen vents are often fitted with filters to prevent dust from entering the interior, while keeping air circulating to avoid overheating.
b) Wide Temperature
Wide-temperature performance is achieved through various methods:
- Heat Dissipation: Internal fans facilitate airflow to prevent overheating in high-temperature environments.
- Temperature Sensors: These monitor ambient conditions and adjust heating or cooling systems to maintain optimal operation.
- Industrial-grade Components: Wide-temperature IC chips, capacitors, and resistors ensure stable performance under extreme conditions.
2.High Brightness Design with Anti-glare Function
Outdoor touch screens achieve high brightness through several techniques:
a) High-Brightness LED Backlights:
Providing outputs ranging from 1000 to 3000 nits or higher.
b) Automatic Brightness Adjustment:
Adapting backlight intensity based on ambient light to ensure optimal display.
c) Optical Adhesive:
Fully laminating the touch and display layers to minimize reflections, enhance brightness, and improve contrast.
