What is the principle of Projected Capacitive (PCAP) touch?

Time: 2022-11-10
Publisher: TES

When a finger touches the panel, because human skin is conductive, a new capacitor—called Finger Capacitance (Cf)—is formed between the finger and the ITO electrodes on the touch panel. The electric field (lines of force) originally distributed between the ITO electrodes changes because some lines connect to the skin. This alters the capacitance values on the X and Y axes. Because the electric field is "projected," the induction capacitance between the finger and electrodes is called projected capacitance.
